Marine Debris & Entanglement Working Group Meeting 2 - Center for Ocean Policy and Economics (COPE°)
COPE° was launched in 2022 by Northeast Maritime Institute (www.nmi.edu) - a private maritime college located in Fairhaven, Massachusetts - to provide a safe and transparent digital platform for a diverse group of individuals and organizations to collaborate on finding solutions to different maritime and ocean related problems.
COPE° has identified 6 Areas of Influence to focus its work on - Maritime Trade & Commerce, Ocean Ecology, Diplomacy & Foreign Affairs, Economic Development, Energy & Sustainability, and Technology & Innovation. Working Groups fit into these Areas and are focused on identifying and implementing actionable outcomes to address these problems.
Working Groups are volunteer-led and have been structured to be self-led by Leaders of the group, with assistance from COPE Administrators. Meetings are held digitally to remove as many barriers to participation as possible.
COPE° recently launched its Working Group on Marine Debris & Entanglement, the mission of vision of which are as follows:
Mission: To solve the issue of marine entanglement through innovation, collaboration, and technology.
Vision: To reduce and, ultimately, eliminate marine entanglement by using a multi-disciplinary input combined with the adaption and improvement of existing technology and innovation.
The main objective of this group is to mitigate the risk of entanglement for all marine life and mariners alike. This Working Group hopes to achieve this objective by establishing the ropeless and Tautline fishing systems as tools to directly and positively impact issues of marine entanglement and ghost fishing gear. This Working Group aims to promote a reduction in the amount of rope (ropeless & on demand gear) utilized at sea and to promote a change in how marine equipment is handled and deployed (tautline buoys) to promote a safer environment for whales, sharks, turtles, and other marine species while also significantly improving on deck safety.

Outstanding explanation. Thank you
Do we go in the Deviation Table with the Compass Heading or Magnetic Heading? Or you can do it in both ways? I can't get it coz deviation table says to start with the Compass Heading.
Is relative bearing counts from 0 to 360? In russian books it has another name but counts from 0 to 180 each side

Weems & Plath just gained another sale of two triangles, lol!! Super easy to follow and the accuracy gain really makes using triangles a no-brainer. Thanks for a great video, you got a new subscriber in me!
This man is a great teacher. I've never learned well from books, the steps never seem to line up in my head, but when this gentleman teaches anything about navigation it makes perfect sense.
Yes I agree ☑️
This man is a genius. He is such a great professor. Im in the navy and I love reading about navigation and learn about maritime history and this man makes it so easy.
Sign in for class🫡
Thank you, I was not getting it until I found this video… appreciate your explanation, clear
Dammit.. thank you. We the maritime community thanks you for taking the time to educate us.
Thank you!
What about the terms BCT and BCR?
Why not just use a clock face system?
Please, I am a student who wants to study marine online, where can I register?

10% sounds like lot of friction… wouldn’t the use of ball bearing sheaves cut that down much?
woudnt the advantage still be heavy since you are directly (your force directly pulling the weight) trying to pick up the weight instead of you pulling behind the pulleys helpings the tension and force?
Thank you very much ❤
This video provides simple steps for calculating time and is still the best video about the subject in my opinion.
Great video. Thanks a lot
Who are the meeting attendees please. Can’t see their names on the screen.
India and China are the two biggest polluters in the world and seem to always evade scrutiny. When was the last time independent testing of sea water was done near Japan's Fukushima power plants? God only knows what undeveloped countries in Africa are dumping into the rivers that discharge into the oceans.
This is very good for us sir.specially for students and for refreshing seafarers out there who forgot this one.thanks sir.godbless you😊
Thank you for a simple explanation of a plottimg!!!👍🏻
Can someone explain why it became 043 in 2nd bearing?
Fantastic explanation and a great presentation of information! Learned how to solve these problems with videos 1-3 thank you.
This was an absolute godsend.. Sending Cpt Dave and the NE Maritime Channel many thanks!! 🙏
thank you captain
Watching these 9 years after posting and wish I had some sample problems with answers. Very interesting.
Refreshing yourself on DR would come in useful if some country detonated an EMP weapon in the atmosphere or the GPS satellite network was knocked out.
"bada bing bada boom"
Wonderful explained
My dad was a navigator in the Army Air Corps during WW2 and continued in the Air Force Reserve later on during the 50s through the 60s during the Gemini Mission. I tried to learn it but still can't get the slightest grasp of this subject matter. It's just way over my head. Astronomy was easier and so is learning Chinese.
Hello there, really wonderful view 💙💙👍👍
Thanks u sir. I would like to how it is compss err = 10 when it shuold be 14 10+2 we add them when took the singe for the greter number. & thanks agin
yes my Q too
How to calculate the influence from wind on the drift?
Great video thank you
Dave this is great stuff but watching you do the arithmetic (borrowing and carrying) is painful
How is the conflict res. going?
Very well explained thank you 😊
dude i love my math teacher but i SUCK at timw math to tysmmmmm for this😭😭😭😭
Page 561 The development of flight instruments made it possible to navigate airplanes by dead reckoning, without the need for being able to see landmarks.
But this method is no longer generally used because errors in the functioning of the instruments and changes in winds aloft make it unreliable.
Don't understand why you would not set a course to steer unless the tide info is not available. Basically the boat is 1.2 NM off preferred course.
more content about navigation pls this kind of teaching was so good, salute to you sir
It 😊😅😅😅😅😊😊😊😊😂😊😂😊😊😂😊😂😊😊😂😊😂😊🎉😊😊😊😅😅😢🎉🎉🎉😂❤😂😂😢😮😮🎉🎉😅🎉😅
